How quickly will you reply to my emails?
Generally within 2-3 hours, maximum 24.
Is there a quick way to calculate how much it will cost to have my paper corrected or translated?
Yes. Just use our calculation maker.
I often have to meet extremely tight deadlines. How quickly can you revise my work?
Generally within 24-72 hours. The cost of the revision will also depend on how quickly you need it and how long the work is. If you give us advance warning, this will help us plan our work and put you at or near the top of the queue when you do send us your work.
Do you accept papers from all scientific disciplines?
Essentially yes, though we specialize in the following general fields: biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics and physics. If we decide we do not have the specific expertise required, particularly in the field of medicine, we may recommend that you seek the services of specialists e.g. www.biomedproofreading.com (BioMed Proofreading LLC, USA)
Are there any cases where you would decline to correct a paper?
We would only decline to revise a paper that has clearly been translated automatically, or that contains so many mistakes that it needs to be completely rewritten, or that we do not feel qualified to correct. However in 25 years of experience, we have only declined two papers. We might also consider delaying the correction of a paper, if payment of previous invoices from the same department are more than three months’ overdue.
What file formats do you support?
We prefer Microsoft Word (or Open Office and NeoOffice) as this enables us to use the Track Changes option. However, we also accept Latex and PDF files both of which we will then convert into Word so that you can see the changes that we make.
Do you do translations?
Yes, we also translate most types of scientific and technical documents from Italian to English but not theses or medical manuscripts.
Do you revise and translate presentations?
Yes, we do. You can either paste the text into a Word file, and then a Word document and then we will correct it using the Track Changes option. The cost is the same as for a normal Revision or Translation. The advantage for you is a) a lower cost than if you want us to work directly on the ppt file b) you can see all the changes we make Or you can send us your presentation as a Powerpoint file. We will then revise or translate the file, and return it to you ready for immediate use. This service costs 50% more than the service of revising or translating a Word file as it takes us considerably longer. The advantage for you is that we will send you back your presentation ready for immediate use, which may be particularly useful if you have a very tight deadline. We can also advise on how to reduce the amount of text and improve the impact of your presentation. We will send you free of charge our Guidelines to Writing Presentations.
Our department website needs translating - do you offer this kind of service?
To establish how much it will cost to revise the English or translate your website, paste all the text into one Word file and then count the characters without spaces. The cost is the same as for a normal revision or translation. We have corrected and translated many university and research institute websites. We can also advise on content and new pages that you might wish to include. The cost is €75 and we will send you free of charge our Guidelines to University Website Content.
Connected to the papers I write there is a lot of correspondence via email. Will you also correct any accompanying documents (referees reports etc) and cover letters?
There are three ways to have emails corrected:
- 1) English for Academics offers an email/letter service on a subscription basis. You can have a certain number of emails and letters corrected over a 12 month period.
- 2) You can pay for each email / letter on an individual basis, but with a minimum of four emails. See Cost.
- 3) If the emails are in relation to a paper you have written (e.g. emails and referees reports to editors of journals), then you could add the costs directly to the cost of having the paper corrected.
Emails / Letters will be returned to you between 1 and 6 hours after receipt during working days. Details on our email service
